Common questions before a pool table job
Can a pool table get down to a rowhouse basement?
In many cases, yes, because a slate table comes apart into pieces that are carried separately. The narrowest point on the route, usually the basement stairs, is what matters. Measure the stair width and the lowest ceiling point, and mention both when you ask for a quote.
What should I tell you about parking and access?
Say where a vehicle can stop and how far that is from the door, including any steps up from the street. If the street has permit parking, loading limits or a narrow alley, mention it so the time on site can be planned around it.
What is the difference between one-piece and three-piece slate?
Most full-size home tables use three separate slate sections that are levelled and joined during assembly. Some smaller or lower-cost tables use a single slate, which is heavier to lift in one piece and limits how it can be moved. If you are not sure which you have, a photo underneath the table usually shows it.
Is there anything I should do to the room beforehand?
Clear the table and a working space around it, and move fragile furniture off the route. If you have rugs that are coming up or floors being finished, mention it, because the table's final position is easier to set before rather than after.
Can the cloth be changed at the same time as a move?
Yes. Changing the cloth while the table is apart saves taking the rails off twice. Say what colour and grade of cloth you would like, or ask for options, when you request the move.
